Duquesne Incline Ornament

The Duquesne Incline, which has been scaling the side of Mount Washington since May 7, 1877, is a museum in motion. The two cars that carry people up and down the side of Mount Washington are the originals. Each incline car can carry up to 25 people at a time while moving about 320 feet per minute, making the 400 foot trip relatively short.

The cars carry people up to the top of Mount Washington where observation decks provide a beautiful view of Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle. The view has been ranked as one of the most beautiful views in America. The inclines and the view from above are one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations.
