Starting Out the New Year in Pittsburgh
January 4, 2018With the year coming to an end, it’s always fun to look back into the past year to see all that happened. But, it’s also important to end the year with a bang by planning festive outings with family and friends. Below is a list of Pittsburgh’s best New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day activities.
First Night Pittsburgh
Head downtown for a night you won’t soon forget. Many a business will sponsor activities, food trucks, as well as community performances for event-goers as the clock ticks closer to midnight. Groups such as The River City Brass Band and Lee Fields & The Expressionists will entertain the masses and provide enough festivity to ring in the New Year. The events start at 6pm and will last until the ball drops at midnight.
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Running for a limited time, Phipp’s is hosting the Winter Flower Show and Light Garden featuring stunning flower exhibits. With Chihuly glass and art pieces installed in various rooms, visiting is a great way to end the year. In addition, from 6-9 with admission to the botanical gardens, there will be an early New Year’s celebration for families. Once inside, all activities for children and adults are free!
Bunches of Bars:
The nightlife in Pittsburgh explodes on New Year’s Eve with people crawling from bar to bar ready to ring in the new year. Check out spots like Olive or Twist and Tequila Cowboy for a memorable night. Many a bar will be hopping with people celebrating the end of the year!
PPG Wintergarden and Santas From Around the World:
Christmas may be over, but the holiday spirit still lingers in the air! Tour the magical PPG building, enchanted with jolly St. Nicks from various cultures and endless gingerbread creations. This is the perfect spot for families of all ages and is completely free.
