Holiday Shopping in Pittsburgh
December 8, 2023Tips for a Healthy Heart
February 7, 2024Pittsburgh has a wonderful library system through the Allegheny County Library Association and the Carnegie libraries. While these libraries are wonderful, sometimes you want to read a book without having to worry about a due date. Sprinkled throughout the city, such places to grab a free book exist.
Books for Everyone
You’ve probably seen the wooden boxes around the city. They’re often standing in front yards or outside businesses and they look like cute houses. Some of them even get decorated for holidays. What are they? They’re free libraries. Anyone can take a book to borrow, or if you need to clear your shelves, you can leave books inside. Many of these libraries are part of the Little Free Library initiative — a Minnesota-based non-profit whose purpose is to give access to books to everyone.
Find a Library
As winter sets in and the biting air drives more of us indoors, we thought it might be nice to show you where Little Free Libraries can be found throughout the city. You can swing by one and a grab a book to cozy up with on one of these cold winter nights. Little Free Library has searchable map to help patrons find their local library. Simply visit here and enter in your address to find the library closest to you.
If you’re looking to set up one of these cute miniature houses full of books, you can also find out more information on their website for registering one.
Happy reading and stay warm, Pittsburgh!
