We can't jump up an catch the stars,
But we can enjoy their dancing lights.
We can't see the future far ahead,
But we can live in the present and do what's right.
We can't own the moon and the worlds above,
But we can express enduring love.
~Ian Heiss
It’s a Pittsburgh summer
When the city is yours to discover.
So much to do every weekend
And great places to take your friends.
From Sandcastle to Kennywood,
To Special events in every neighborhood,
Enjoy the sunshine
And eat outside at lunchtime.
Concerts and movies after dark,
Fireworks at PNC park.
There are Food festivals galore
Or you can go on a river tour,
Visit farmers markets on the Square,
Explore the Strip District with great food everywhere.
Explore parks, trails, and rivers,
Or watch city views while eating picnic dinners.
Pittsburgh is the place to be for summer fun.
The city offers something for everyone.

Pittsburgh in spring
When chirping birds make your heart sing.
The first blooms of flowers
And many rain showers.
First green buds on the trees
And the happiness of a light breeze.
Trees are no longer bare
and the bright colors of spring are everywhere.
Spring brings sunshine
And people eating outside at lunchtime.
Baseball, running, hiking,
Enjoy all the fun that spring can bring.
Pittsburgh spring means healthy bike rides
And busy parks citywide.
There is always something to do,
Get outside and enjoy the awesome views.
Spring in our city,
It is always so pretty.

A Pittsburgh winter
Is here.
Chilly, windy days,
With dark gray skies appear.
I love to see sunshine
and blue skies.
Pittsburgh winter-
Sometimes you bring weather that is a surprise.
Fluffy snowflakes
Ever so light
Coat our pine trees
And shine in the night.
winter snow coming down
Creates a magical globe scene.
It is enchanting,
So peaceful and serene.
This song of winter
And it’s melody.
The joy of it all
Is basking in its glorious beauty.
The crunch of heavy snow
Under my cold feet
This Pittsburgh winter
Is sometimes not a treat.
The ice glistens
in the sunshine
It will become spring
When it is time.
~Susan MccClellan
Pittsburgh in the fall is so cool
There is always plenty to see and do.
Cooler temperatures and shorter days
Are perfect for pumpkin picking or enjoying a corn maze.
It is a perfect time to explore a pumpkin or apple fest
All of the activities will leave you very impressed.
Red, orange, and yellow leaves
Are beautiful on the trees.
Enjoy fall foliage at its peak
And explore a different part of the city every week.
Football and hockey season
We love fall in Pittsburgh for so many reasons.
Investigate Haunted houses, enjoy fright nights,
And explore the scary sights.
Other events like Doors Open Pittsburgh are a must
See inside cool buildings like the Union Trust.
Late fall brings Light up Night downtown
And market square Holiday shops around.
Enjoying all the interesting activities is a pleasure,
For fall in Pittsburgh is a treasure.

Positively Pittsburgh Poems
If your friends forget the “h” in Pittsburgh,
If they say “y’all” instead of “yinz”,
If they can’t redd-up N’at,
It’s time to make new friends.
If your friends are scared of the tunnel monster,
If they think there are too many bridges,
If they can’t stand a parking chair,
It’s time to make new friends.
If your friends cheer for the Philadelphia Flyers,
If they think you go to PNC Park to watch the baseball game,
If they don’t know who ‘Big Ben’ is,
It’s time to make new friends.
If your friends use ketchup other than Heinz,
If they don’t think fries belong on a sandwich,
If they have never been to Gus and Yia-Yias,
It’s time to make new friends.
If your friends don’t understand “Kennywood’s open”,
If they can’t tell the Duquesne Incline from the Mon incline,
If they never waded in the fountain at The Point,
It’s time to make new friends.

Past Monthly Poems
Recollect, review, and revitalize.
There is much to be done before the ball drops and the confetti flies.
Out with the old and in with the new,
As we await the year of 2022.
Young and old look toward a future that is happy and bright,
As the clocks count down on the blustery night.
The air is charged with electricity,
As the night ends and the world anticipates what will be.
Lots of sweet candy
A day for love and beauty
Valentine's Day is for all
Hearts made of sugar
Words sweet as chocolate candy
Celebrate young and old love
Blushing from sweet words
Eyes full of love and kindness
Will you be my Valentine?
Oh, Spring! You naughty little sprite.
No longer will you stay hidden from our sight.
For months the skies were dark and gray,
The frozen land left to wither and decay.
We laid down defeated on a wintery night,
but awoke to a land both sunny and bright.
There's grass all around in a wonderful bouquet.
Children gleefully run, jump, and play.
The buds from the trees have won this fight.
Everything now grows, as well as our delight.
Surely the snow is finally retreated,
old man winter is now defeated.
For behold the sunrise above the rivers,
and the rabbits emerge with one last shiver.
There now is rain to replace the dancing snow
to kiss the flowers so that they will grow.
Gone away are the colors dreary,
the browns and grays that makes men weary.
In their place are colors new and bright
like cheerful flowers, what a sight!
Hues of purples, reds and pinks
a wonderful replacement, don't you think?
~Kelsey Walls
April Showers bring May flowers,
but March paves the way.
The seeds of future blooms are laid
as winter's snow fades away.
The gray, bleak sky is but a passing phase,
for blue skies and sun rays are coming to spend the day.
A season of hope and renewal arrives.
up until now, Spring was held at Bay
May has chased off winter's freeze.
So awaken to a warm spring breeze.
A day needing only a pole and bait,
Those are the ones cherished and great
Travel from the fast city with its noisy cars
And lazily stare up at the twinkling stars.
Enjoy these days, long and bright
Before, again, they are out of sight.
Headphones on, Sound on
Sun rays beaming, People wave
City walks in May
Now is the time to get away, take a vacation.
Freed from work, you'll be filled with elation.
Just stay all day out on a sandy shore.
Tasks and duties, NO, just hit ignore.
Family and friends only, for the duration.
Cherish these memories and the sweet sensation.
Time moves fast, don't be left wanting more.
Love, laughs and people, that's what life is for.
The days are long, sticky and hot.
Is it unpleasant? No, it is not.
For across your face a cool breeze flew.
Then onto a lake that's clear crystal blue.
A day by water lost deep in thought.
Delivering you to a tranquil spot.
Everything is wet from morning dew.
and the sounds of people are scattered and few.
Each day is bright, wondrous and new.
Those hidden inside just don't have a clue.
The days are shorter but not yet cool.
All the kids are back in school.
The leaves have begun to change.
A new season feels so strange.
Soon you will see a scary ghoul,
but for now take one last dip in the pool.
Swimsuits for coats will soon exchange.
Goodbye warm beaches and hello snowy range.
Halloween is for young and old,
for both girls and boys, and goblins and ghouls.
Spooking, creeping, scaring galore,
do tricks or treats lie behind the door?
From house to house and street to street,
the bags get filled with everything sweet.
With the tireless trek finally done,
a belly filled with candy is a happy one!
Woah, the table is full, too crowded in fact,
With food and family. But, I've never minded that.
While the weather outside is blistering cold,
We listen to stories begging to be told.
Hearty laughs, squeals, and smiles all around,
Happiness is such a beautiful sound.
Here the fire roaring and our stomachs are full,
Having my loved ones around, I need nothing more.
Soft powder snow falls to the ground
As children and joy swirl all around.
Red noses and smiles run through the door,
leaving little footsteps and puddles on the floor.
Into parents arms they jump, full of kisses and hugs.
Hot chocolate and marshmallows filled in their mugs.
Presents wrapped in ribbons and bows are under the tree,
but everyone knows that all the best presents are free.
